Who We Are

York Rite is one of the oldest and most widely practiced appendant bodies of Freemasonry. It is a series of progressive degrees beyond the three degrees of Symbolic Masonry (Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason). Our organization in Leander, Texas, is dedicated to the tenets of Freemasonry and the principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth.

Through a series of rich and historical degrees, we delve deeper into the legends and teachings of Freemasonry, providing our members with further light in Masonry and a deeper understanding of its moral lessons.

Royal Arch Masons

The Chapter of Royal Arch Masons is the first body of the York Rite. Its degrees continue the symbolic journey begun in the Blue Lodge, providing the candidate with the "lost word" and a deeper understanding of the Master Mason degree. It is often referred to as the "completion of Ancient Craft Masonry."

The Council of Cryptic Masons is the next step in the York Rite. These degrees deal with the legendary history of the Craft, particularly the preservation of important knowledge and treasures from King Solomon's Temple. The degrees teach valuable lessons about faithfulness and the importance of guardianship.

Knights Templar

The Commandery of Knights Templar is a Christian-oriented Masonic Order. Unlike the previous degrees, which reenact ancient Israelite themes, the Commandery degrees are based on the history and spirit of the medieval Crusades and the original Knights Templar. It is a chivalric order dedicated to the defense of the Christian faith.
